Mordecai Schreiber
Mordecai Schreiber is the author of over 50 books about linguistics, the Bible, religious thinking, as well as two novels and many translations. Born in Israel, he lived in Uruguay before coming to the United States, where he spent most of his adult life. He also lived and worked in Guatemala for three years. He has written and translated books in English, Spanish and Hebrew.
While in rabbinical school in Cincinnati and in New York, he studied under some world-renowned biblical scholars. He is a life-long student of the Bible, and his latest book is a ground-breaking book about the prophet Jeremiah. Schreiber shows in this book how Jeremiah is not only a great biblical prophet but also a key figure in Jewish and world history, indeed the one who laid the groundwork not only for post-biblical Judaism but also for Christinanity and Islam.
In addition to being a prolific author, translator and editor, Rabbi Schreiber served congregations in Ohio, New York, Maryland and Florida, as well as in Guatemala. After retiring from the two successful companies he founded in the Washington, DC area, Schreiber Translations and Schreiber Publishing, he has undertaken a new career as a chaplain on cruise ships. In the past five years he and his wife, Hanita, have traveled the seven seas and visited over 40 countries. They have three grownup children and two grandchildren. They live in Potomac, Maryland, and in Ramat Aviv, Israel.
